The Perfect Wines
The Traveler Collection
The Mazza Chautauqua Cellars Traveler Collection is a love letter to … dirt.
A recognition of the hard work and vital role that terroir, growing conditions, and vineyard management play in the nuanced flavors and aromas of a well-crafted wine. The winemakers who crafted this collection view their jobs as stewards and protectors of those naturally imbued characteristics, employing intentionally gentle winemaking methods to coax out, not alter, the unique characteristics that Mother Nature provides.
Our creative team took a page out of the winemakers’ book by looking to the land for inspiration. Each label pays homage to the intentionally precise vineyard selection by featuring the topographic elevation lines of the exact spot where the wine’s grapes were grown. The label showcases the wine in context of the vineyard thanks to an elegantly placed die-cut monogram that allows the product to shine through.

Mirroring the winemaker’s light touch that highlights — not overshadows — the influence of the land, the type treatment is understated and approachable, providing just the right amount of identification without overwhelming. A toothy stock engages the sense of touch and provides a satisfying contrast to the smooth, glossy glass, making it as interesting tactilely as it is visually.
PROUD MOMENT
“We should redesign the label” is an easy thing to say. (Trust us, we’ve said it plenty.) But the logistics of actually reinventing and rolling out a new wine collection go way beyond strategy, design, and production.
There’s a business (and emotional) decision to be made, weighing the value of brand recognition and legacy against a shiny, new aesthetic. Predicting the depletion rate of the current inventory to inform timing is a dark science in itself, and forecasting the upcoming vintage means relying on the mercurial pairing of Mother Nature and luck.
But, the team at Mazza believed in the new approach and made the hard decision to move forward. And the progress continues. While we kicked off this rebrand in mid-2021, new labels are still being rolled out as we round the corner to 2026. (And yes, they’re getting better with age.)
